Some Recommended Illuminance Levels Given here is a list of recommended illuminances for various interiors and tasks. Guidance is also given (based on the international recommendation set forth in CIE Report No. 29) as to which quality class should  be used for glare limitation.

   Illuminances
The illuminance values in the table are maintained illuminances. The mean value of the iIIuminance at the task
location must not be lower than the iIIuminance indicated, irrespective of the age of installation.

   Quality Class
The quality classes for glare limitation refer to those employed in the CIE Glare Safeguard System described in Sec.     3.2.3, page 137 of this manual. At the time of going to press, however, the CIE is busy with reviewing the whole question of glare     limitation and recommended quality classes. In the meantime for the purposes of selecting the luminance limit curve appropriate to a     particular combination of quality class and iIIuminance, the term Service iIIuminance employed in Fig. 3.5 page 138 should be     interpreted as being equal to the maintained iIIuminance.
